THE SPORTS GUY - The A.I. Pistons? Are they better?

I'll admit it.  I was totally on board with the trade to obtain Allen Iverson.  But their so-so results with him, his apparent unwillingness or inability  to play a team-oriented offense or defense, and his demonstrated unwillingness to practice with his new team has me thinking....uh,oh, I hope this was a move really was designed to put the Pistons in the LeBron James sweepstakes in 2010!

Thoughts on the Pistons with Iverson:

He needs to be the first, second and third option on offense.  He didn't succeed in Denver because their was not enough ball for him and Carmelo Anthony.  Rip Hamilton looks lost on offense when Iverson has the ball.  So far, it's not working.

Defense.  The Pistons have become softer on defense every year since Ben Wallace left.  I think Big Ben's time here was appropriately over when he left, but each successive move has made the Pistons weaker on defense, and although Iverson plays a good individual defensive game, he doesn't play a strong team defensive game.  Practice?

Stuckey.  The Pistons made the move to get iverson, a proven scorer, due to the emergence of Rodney Stuckey, with the thinking being that Iverson could go away after this season and have the reins handed over to Stuckey.  Not so fast.  Stuckey is a good player, and can be times.  But no one knows when those times are going to be, and he is really only a scoring threat when he can drive the lane - he is a poor outside shooter, something other teams now have figured out.  There are too many teams, Boston among them, that can stop his game.  He MUST develop a stronger outside shot.

Speaking of Boston, the two early games against them this season have made it clear -- Iverson or no Iverson, the Pistons don't match up well against them, and won't.  With the iverson trade now on the books, with his true non-practicing colors now shown, the Pistons run of making it to the Eastern conference finals will end this year.
