9/29 - .iTown Blog - Current Ramblings About Life in Plymouth and Canton

.iTown Editor

The Tigers split 2 with the Twins last night, which is an OK result.   But aren't you glad the Tigers came into this series with a 2 game lead?  I had no confidence the Tigers would sweep this series, and I still have difficulty thinking they will win both of the remaining games.  The Twins seem to figure out a way to manufacture runs when needed, and the Tigers can't seem to get the hit they need when they have runners on base.  That killed them in Game 1.   The Tigers patchwork starting rotation needs to pull out one more win in the next two - I like the Tigers  chances to win the division going into the Chisox series with a two-game lead.

What about the Red Wings?  I think they start the season as a favorite to win the cup, but I also think salary cup parity is starting to catch up to them.  They lost more than they acquired, and some season, soon, they are going to need to shell out for a top-flight goalie.

Last one on sports - My daughter tells me that with the impressive start by the Canton High School football team this season, there are Juniors on the team that have yet to lose a game in three years of Freshman, Junior Varsity and first-year varsity play.  Keep it up boys!  We'll be seeing you at Ford Field in November!

The road work in and around Plymouth and Canton has been inconvenient, but they have done a nice job, and the completed projects are a dramatic improvement over some pretty sorry roads.

Favorite restaurant for a good inexpensive meal - M & M Cafe on Cherry Hill Rd., just east of Sheldon, in Canton.  Great daily specials, good portions, and a friendly waitstaff.

Do you have a favorite eating spot you want people to know about?  Let us know.

A great two-movie series available as a recommended rental, and also available at the Canton library - the 1998 film Elizabeth, and the 2007 sequel, Elizabeth - The Golden Age, both starring Kate Blanchett.  Blanchett was up for, but did not win, an Oscar for both performances. Try to watch them in sequence if you can, but if you only want to see one, The Golden Age has a more interesting plot.  Read more about the Golden Age here.

The murder-suicide at the library in Canton, when considered with other events that have occurred here in recent  years, sure makes it seem as if Canton has lost that "small town feel" that attracted many to the area in the 1980's.  Like it or not, Canton is a large community now.

Plymouth seems to be able to retain a small town atmosphere, accentuated by it's downtown and nearby residential neighborhoods.  Canton's attempt to replicate that in Cherry Hill Village seems, for now, just that - an attempt.
